You Can't Stop The BEAT!!!!!!

The cast has been incredibly busy putting the show up! We’ve been adding costumes, lights, and the set looks AMAZING! Not to mention the weather has been trying to “Stop the Beat” but it’s got nothing on the motion of our ocean. While everywhere, including most of the fast food restaurants where I wanted to eat dinner, has been closed due to all the ice and snow we have been diligently working on Hairspray for 12 hours a day. It’s completely worth braving the weather!

Day 5 has come and gone… and to be quite honest, I’m not sure how I am keeping my eyes open to write you this post. In just 5 short days, we have successfully choreographed and staged more than HALF of the show!

Our HAIRSPRAY family was finally made complete when the RIDICULOUSLY talented Angela Birchett (who will be playing Motormouth Maybelle) joined us for her first day of rehearsal. It has been said that when writing a show, it can add excitement and a new burst of energy for the audience to meet one of the principal players later on in the story. She did JUST THAT for the cast today.

Even though putting a show up this quickly can be terribly taxing and stressful, it has truly been such a rewarding experience already.

I’m afraid that I must bid you adieu for now. The cast will be meeting at “Le Beef” bright and early to start learning vocals and choreography to the toe-tapping smooth jam “Without Love”!

Hi there!

My name is Sam and I am playing the role of Gilbert, one of Seaweed’s good friends, in the upcoming production of Hairspray at Beef & Boards.

It is VERY hard to believe that after all the anticipation, we have started rehearsals at last! The first day has come and gone and it is already very clear to me, and many others, that this will be one AMAZING show. Will already wrote about the pace at which we are moving: 2 numbers already choreographed! I’d say that is quite an accomplishment!

What will make this show stand out are the relationships that you will see on stage. Not only are we working well together, but we are becoming friends. After one day, we have already begun to form strong bonds! In the words of my fellow blogger Will, “I met so many cool people today. There wasn’t a single person that I met today that I didn’t like!” I’m almost positive that everyone in the cast would agree.

Will and I are so excited to keep you up to date on the rehearsal process with fun inside info like character interviews, hip dance lessons, backstage photos, rehearsal videos and more!

Make sure to check in with us everyday! Who knows… you might even get to see my hair in a beehive…

Hello! My name is Will! I’m playing Sketch, one of the council members, in the show. Sam and I will be blogging about the show as it happens!

Today was the first day of rehearsal for the rest of us, but some of the principals started yesterday. Everybody is on top of their stuff! We choreographed Good Morning Baltimore and Nicest Kids in Town today and still got to leave 15 minutes early! Everybody sounds and looks great and I’m so excited to do this show with everyone.

More posts to come, but for now I’m tuckered out. So using a lot of hairspray I tried my best to give you a real nice beehive before they cut my hair for the show. I think it turned out great. See y’all tomorrow!
